Core Design were the original creators of Tomb Raider.
Core Design had created 6 Tomb Raider games:
- Tomb Raider (1996)
- Tomb Raider II (1997)
- Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft (1998)
- Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (1999)
- Tomb Raider: Chronicles (2000)
- Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (2003)
They used the same gaming engine for Tomb Raider 1-5, but the graphics enhanced in each game, as well as new moves being added. For Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, they moved to a next generation engine - where it was better in graphics, and new moves. The Angel of Darkness was criticized by its difficult controls and camera angles. Afterwards, many of the three key members of the Core team left the company and went onto their own development team, Circle Studio.
Tomb Raider was given to another developed owned by Eidos: Crystal Dynamics.
