Antarctica is one of the many locations visited in the Tomb Raider series.

Original Timeline[]
Lara Croft visits this location to give the meteorite artifacts to Dr. Mark Willard who is the head of a mining company called R.X.Tech stationed here.
Here Lara finds out that Willard has been conducting horrible experiments in evolution. Lara confronts him about it and when Willard tells her about his diabolical plans for using the artifacts' powers to accelerate the evolutionary process, she is horrified and decides to stop him.
However Willard steals the artifacts and runs away, resulting in Lara chasing him to the Lost City of Tinnos where the meteorite cavern is located. Willard then combines its power of the meteorite crater with the artifacts to transform into a hideous all-powerful spider-like monster.
Lara manages to rob him of his power by removing the artifacts from their places in the cavern and kills him. She then leaves the cavern, fights her way through some R.X.Tech soldiers and flame throwers and pilots a helicopter to make her escape, whilst avoiding more attacks before leaving Antarctica for good.
Animated Timeline[]
Captain J. C. Revere had an expedition in the area in 19th century. He found an island where Angel Spit was on the ground. The mineral drove his men to madness, and they killed themselves. Revere returned with one piece of Angel Spit and a warning not to return there.
Lara Croft after consulting the Piri Reis Map and Chile shaman Maria, went to that island, and found some old ruins and creatures who forced her to flee.
