Iris was an artifact that Werner Von Croy and Lara Croft first saw in Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
Despite the ancient warnings, Werner wanted the artifact for himself. Once he reached the Iris, the ruins started to shake, and he lost his balance and fell from the platform, but his leg got caught on something. Werner was then trapped within the Iris' chamber.
It's unknown how he got free from there, but Werner later had the Iris in his company building, Von Croy Industries. There the Iris showed the power of teleportation. Lara Croft raided Von Croy Industries and stole Iris for herself and put on a display in her manor.
