Raptor Remastered

Velociraptor from Tomb Raider I-III Remastered.

Velociraptors, colloquially called simply Raptors, are enemies in the Tomb Raider series. They are bipedal red dinosaurs roughly the same size as Lara. Velociraptors often appear in groups of two or three at a time and can be overwhelming if the player is not prepared for them. They appear in Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider III, Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Tomb Raider Reloaded.

Tactics[]

Classic[]

Velociraptors are really fast and can quickly cause a lot of damage by biting and tackling Lara. However, they often approach from afar and can be seen from a long distance, allowing the player to take the necessary precautions and/or start shooting them preemptively.

In the original Tomb Raider, they make their debut and most prominent presence in the Lost Valley level, where several of them can be found roaming the lower open valley section. Fortunately, there are a vast number of high ledges around the player can climb onto, from where they can safely shoot at these dinosaurs at will. Furthermore, even if velociraptors can charge at great speed, they frequently make long pauses to either hiss at Lara or simply to slowly pace around, allowing the player ample time to find a safe spot.

A few more are found inside the Tomb of Qualopec, where they may surprise the player by unexpectedly coming out from hallways and attacking them in close quarters. The shotgun is recommended for these close encounters.

In Tomb Raider III, velociraptors are much deadlier, as they soak up considerably more ammunition than in the first game, are much faster and have a much more devastating attack. They only appear in the Crash Site level, and in fact they take part in a minigame of sorts where the player is expected to man a mounted grenade launcher and dispose of a large gauntlet of them.

In Tomb Raider: Anniversary, they are encountered in the same counterpart area of the Lost Valley level in that game. The addition of the adrenaline dodge headshot allows for new tactics the player can employ to deal with these prehistoric creatures, although it's also possible to find a high ledge around, climb onto it and freely shot at them without them being able to retaliate in any way.

Tomb Raider Reloaded[]

Small blue raptors charge at Lara, although care should be taken as they slide further than the attack range indicates. Two red raptors appear as bosses on stage 40 in Chapter 4, and three raptors in Chapter 5. Boss versions are more aggressive and chase Lara constantly.

Note: Prior to version 0.7.5, the boss fight was against singular red raptor.
