Explosive Weapons are a recurring weapon type in the Tomb Raider series.

Original Timeline[]

Tomb Raider[]

Grenades were considered in the first Tomb Raider as a replacement for Dynamite, but were cut from the finished game entirely.

Legend Timeline[]

Tomb Raider: Legend[]

Lara use grenades. They can be used to kill groups of enemies, or vehicles. They can be lifted from fallen enemies, and Lara can carry up to four at a time.

They are modeled after the Mk 2 "Pineapple" Grenade.

Tomb Raider Underworld[]

Lara uses "Sticky" Grenades, which are coated with a powerful adhesive that is released after the grenade is thrown. It will stick to whatever surface it lands on.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light[]

Lara and Totec can deploy remote bombs. This can be used to destroy obstacles, or decimate groups of enemies, that can be lured into the blast radius.

Tomb Raider[]

Though Lara cannot use thrown explosives herself, she can use enemies against them, such as dynamite and Molotov Cocktails, by shooting them before they are thrown, causing the user to drop them, and kill himself and anyone else in the blast radius.

The Multiplayer mode features several additional explosives, including, landmines, dynamite and booby trapped Ammo boxes.

Rise of the Tomb Raider[]

Lara can craft explosives on the fly by using gathered resources.

  • Incendiary Bomb: Made using a petrol can and cloth. Can be thrown directly at enemies to stun them, then explode. Can also be used to destroy metal barriers.
  • Proximity Incendiary Bombs: Crafted from Enemy radios. Will cause a loud beeping to attract enemies, and explode when they are in range.
  • Molotov Cocktail: Made using a bottle and cloth. Can burn a group of enemies and be used to destroy cloth lined barriers.
  • Shrapnel grenade: Crafted from magnesite ore and cans. Kills all enemies in the blast radius, can also destroy metal barriers.
  • Smoke Grenades: Crafted from jars and cloth. Causes a large cloud that impedes enemies vision and stuns them, making them easier to kill.
  • Proximity Poison Gas Mine: Crafted from enemy radios and mushrooms. Will trigger a loud beeping sound and dispel a cloud of poison gas when enemies come within range. Can only be planted on dead enemies.
