Semerkhet was the high priest of Horus.

Biography[]

High Priest of Horus[]

"I Semerkhet, high priest of Horus, forewarn that he who removes the amulet shall have released Set."

Semerkhet, in his tomb's hieroglyphics at Karnak, was described as serving the god of light, Horus, during the time of plagues. Semerkhet was present when the god Set had been outwitted by Horus and was sealed in a secret tomb at the Valley of the Kings. Semerkhet's role here was not to merely observe proceedings but he had an active part in sealing Set away by activating the mechanisms of the sarcophagus. Also, a prophecy was set in motion. Inscribed on the amulet of Horus, Semerkhet forewarned of Set's return in a distant millennia. On papyrus, his tomb and a scroll, Semerkhet left behind messages on where to find information and how to counter Set.

The Temple of Semerkhet[]

The temple of Semerkhet.

"The power to summon the sun god, Horus, to bind the evil Set shall only be revealed to the bearer of the amulet within the temple of Semerkhet at Karnak."
―Semerkhet[src]

Oddly, at the temple of Semerkhet at Karnak, there are statues of Set flanking the entrance to the temple. His tomb is located within the walls of this building and there awaits the Guardian of Semerkhet, a bull.

Cutscene - Library End[]

  • The tablet was returned to the sands that had spawned it beneath the citadel of Saladin in ancient Cairo, foretelling of the time in a distant millennia when the stars of Orion come together. The ceremony is performed and Set entombed.

Trivia[]

  • In Ancient Egypt, Semerkhet was the sixth king of the First Dynasty and ruled around 2950 BC. The Semerkhet who appears in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation is not likely to be the same as the real one but probably a name that was chosen to name the character.
