The Untitled Tomb Raider film is a upcoming 2018 Reboot film to the 2001 film.

The film is set to be a reboot, showing Lara's first adventure and will be based on the 2013 video game with Lara in search to see if her father is dead or alive.[1][2][3]

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has confirmed a third movie is in the works with Dan Lin as producer. Time Warner acquired film rights upon increasing its stake in Eidos in December 2008. The film is still in early stages with no writer or director yet, but the report indicates it will be a reboot that will re-imagine Lara Croft origins. Lin announced that Angelina Jolie would not be returning to the role of Lara Croft, and that a new actress might be cast after a writer and director are attached to the project. Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban and Children of Men Director Alfonso Cuaron is rumored to directed the movie. Graham King's GK Films acquired the film rights and plan to release an origin story reboot by 2013. Iron Man writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have been hired to pen the film. On March 27, 2013, MGM is coming on board the reboot with GK films.[6]MGM has chosen Marti Noxon to pen the script.[7] On February 25, 2015, Deadline has report that Warner Bros will work with MGM to make the film and Evan Daugherty will write the film's script.[8] On September 16, 2015, The Tracking Board reports that Kathryn Bigelow, Mimi Leder and Catherine Hardwicke are on the shortlist to direct the reboot. Tricia Brock was offerd to direct but pass on the film.[9] In November 2015, a director was found to the movie, Roar Uthaug and Geneva Robertson-Dworet will write the film. [10][1] In April 2016, Heroic Hollywood reports a rumor that the film will be titled The Tomb Raider with a October 6, 2017 release date.[11] In July 2016, the film's release date was confirmed as March 16, 2018.[12]

Some rumors report that Lara Croft will be played by Transformers and Jennifer's Body star Megan Fox who denies that she's taking over the role.[13][14][15] On IESB.net it's was learned that Kristen Stewart of Twilight also turned down the role.[16] Another suggests that Peyton List from ABC's series Flash Forward could be the new Lara Croft.[17] Ghost Whisperer star Jennifer Love Hewitt spoke with MTV.com saying that she wants to do an action movie and has set her sights on Lara Croft.[18] Kim Kardashian is in talks to take over Angelina Jolie's role in the Tomb Raider movie franchise, however this casting option is highly unlikely.[19] Olivia Wilde was rumored for Lara but denied about being cast.[20] In an interview with Movieline.com, THOR Star Jaimie Alexander has expressed interest in playing Lara Croft with a desire to "put [her] own spin on Lara Croft.[21] The Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev talks with Ocean Drive magazine that “My dream role is to do a James Bond film, or if they did another Lara Croft, or even a prequel to Lara Croft, I’d want to do that, to get it out of my system.”[22] Hayley Atwell has showed interest in the role, but has not received much support from the Tomb Raider community. [23] Gemma Arterton is on fan's wish list for Lara.[24] On April 1, 2013, it was reported that Kaya Scodelario was cast as Lara, but it was an April Fool's Day joke, she responded: "playing the character would be fun".[25][26] Sharni Vinson was also interested in playing the character. [27][28] On March 10, 2016, Deadline reports that Daisy Ridley is in the running for the role of Lara in the reboot.[29][30] At the end of April 2016, it was announced by Variety that Alicia Vikander is cast as Lara Croft in the reboot.[4] On December 7, 2016, Variety reports that Walton Goggins is cast as the film's villain.[5]
